SIMPSON WINS FOR CO-DRIVER BEVAN
Tony Simpson won the BTRDA R2 Cup on the Trackrod Forest Rally in his Ford Fiesta, despite the sudden death of his longtime co-driver Ian Bevan in the lead up to the rally.
Simpson said: “It was a rally I was planning with Ian just hours before he passed. After speaking with his family and friends, we decided to try and complete the season that he and I had set out to do.”
With Simon Rogers stepping in to co-drive for the day, it didn’t start well when they lost fourth gear halfway through the opening stage in Cropton.
“I still felt we could get a result and we did,” said Simpson. “I had some great support from fellow competitors and it was really appreciated. It was a very hard day for me but we did him proud.”
