EGGLESTONE’S BATTLE FOR CARLISLE START
Stuart Egglestone faces a race against time to get his Ford Escort Mk2 ready for the Carlisle Stages after a last-stage retirement on the recent Chris Kelly Memorial Rally.
Egglestone marked his 50th birthday by tackling the Isle of Man event with
Brian Hodgson co-driving and was on target to get the historic specification Pintopowered Escort into the overall top 10 when the engine let go two miles into the last test of the rally.
Egglestone now needs to finish as the top two-wheeldrive car on Carlisle, which is the final round of the Scottish Rally Championship, to win the Scottish two-wheel-drive title. “That’s the first time it has let me down,” said the Penrith driver of the Pinto engine. “I hope my old engine will fix,” he added of the plan to get to Carlisle.
