STRONG START IN PROSPECT FOR NEW CIRCUIT RALLY CHAMPIONSH­IP

MN gets behind the new single-venue initiative for the 2022-2023 season

The new-look Circuit Rally Championsh­ip will kick off in style at Oulton Park on Saturday with backing from Motorsport News.

Since being re-launched by a co-operative formed the by the event organising clubs, the fresh championsh­ip has attracted major competitor interest and Motorsport News will be onboard as the championsh­ip’s media partner, ensuring extended coverage for the eight-round season.

Matt James, editor of MN, said: “We are very pleased to support the Circuit Rally Championsh­ip and look forward to covering the coming winter season of events. The CRC has an important role in UK rallying and is a perfect for new and existing competitor­s to enjoy their sport. It is also a good way to draw in spectators who may go on to become competitor­s, organisers or marshals.”

The stellar entry for the Neil Howard

Stages at Oulton Park features 14 R5, Rally2 and S2000 cars in the top 20 as well as a host of rapid two-wheel-drive Ford Escorts and Darrians in the capacity field of 100 cars. Chasing top seed

Frank Bird will be drivers such as David Henderson, John Stone, Kevin Procter and Joe Cunningham.

Andrew Bisping from the CRC said: “We’re delighted with the positive response from competitor­s for the new Circuit Rally Championsh­ip. We already have 40 crews registered, with indication­s from half as many again that they’ll be joining before the first round.

“The strength of competitio­n for the Neil Howard Stages is demonstrat­ed by Frank Bird heading the entry list. Competitio­n across the classes looks tight too, with every class having an entry in double figures. As the championsh­ip organising team, formed by the rally organising clubs, we’re very grateful to competitor­s for supporting our efforts.”
