Max McRae says that his fourevent programme in the British Rally Championship is all about building experience in a faster car.

The 19-year-old son of Alistair will join the M-Sport squad to drive a Ford Fiesta Rally2 but says that it’s not about getting results and that experience and seat time in a quicker car are priorities.

McRae will start his BRC programme on the North West Stages on March 23 and then expects to tackle the Jim Clark, Grampian and Cambrian BRC events alongside contesting the Junior European Rally Championship.

McRae told Motorsport News:

“I’m just there to learn with the team, we’re not really looking at the results. Of course the results will come with the miles we get in the car but the main goal was just to get some seat time in a quicker car and, of course, getting the experience, which will be very valuable from the M-Sport team. I’m excited to work with the engineers and the whole team. It’s a really cool thing to be working with a proper world rally team. M-Sport is a team my uncle

Colin drove for so it’s very cool.”

He will be contesting a championship won by his grandfather Jimmy, uncle Colin and his father and says that the McRae heritage in the BRC is important to him.

“The McRae name has a lot of history in the British Rally Championship with dad, Colin and Jimmy all winning a championship or more than one,” added McRae Jr. “That’s very cool and I can’t wait to get into it. There’s a real family history with the championship. My dad and grandad have both said it will be a very good experience. They’re both very happy I’ve got this opportunity and we’ll make the most of it.”
