HAND IN CONTROL ON RALI BRO CARON
A demanding Rali Bro Caron was won by Chris Richmond
Hand and Shaun Richards after an event-long battle for the lead.
Four crews were initially involved in the fight but, by petrol, this had been whittled down to two as Stefan Davies/ Kieran Price and Ieuan Evans/ Dafydd-Sion Lloyd retired with mechanical problems.
At the halfway point John and Eurig Davies held a two-second advantage over Hand/Richards. Davies/Davies then drew this out to 10s before they had to reduce their pace as their Astra developed brake problems. This allowed Hand/Richards to come through at the penultimate time control and seal the win.
George Williams/Nick Bloxham finished in a lonely third place, almost two minutes off the lead but a minute ahead of fourthplaced Malcolm Jones/Rhys Jones.
It was a tough event, with around half the starters making the finish. Welsh champions Arwel Hughes Jones/Dylan John Williams along with two other crews, were disqualified for give way offences. Top seeds Andy Davies and Dai Roberts withdrew after picking up a wrong depart from a control and Mark Lennox and Ian Beamond got less than a mile before their Escort’s diff failed.
The win gives Hand and Richards an early lead in the Welsh Championship after two rounds.
