Ioan Lloyd wins big with his Rally4 Peugeot

-

Welsh ace Ioan Lloyd (Peugeot 208 Rally4) won the Rally4 class, netted top points in the Stellantis Cup and finished an impressive 13th overall.

He led though the opening pair of stages but the chasing pack of Cian Caldwell (Peugeot 208 Rally4), Ryan McHugh (Ford Fiesta Rally4) and Kyle McBride (Peugeot 208 Rally4) were close.

Caldwell edged in front on SS3 only for Lloyd to reclaim the spot a stage later. However, an overshoot on Ardgroom dropped the Welshman to third as McHugh regained top spot, 4.3s ahead of Keelan Grogan (Peugeot 208 Rally4) with Lloyd a similar time behind in third. The trio were given the same time on Saturday’s final stage.

Blasting his way through Sunday’s opener at Gortnagane, Lloyd was back in front for a third time and went on to take an impressive win which was underlined by finishing as the second two-wheel-drive car. McHugh seemed set to take second until he hit a bank on the penultimate stage which damaged the exhaust of his Fiesta culminating in a power loss that allowed Grogan take second. Caldwell slid off the road on SS13 so McBride, who lost time with transmission woes, improved on the final leg to finish fourth.

Local ace Colin O’Donoghue (Ford Escort) won the Modified category where Sean Moynihan impressed in his lesser powered Escort to finished second and net a huge Class 12 victory. Alan Ring (BMW M3) won the Historics.
