Calling all ‘Vagabonds’ for new theatre classes

-

CHILDREN and young people will learn about theatre traditions from around the world in new classes in Musselburgh.

Musselburgh-based dramatist and filmmaker Charles Eades is running East Lothian Vagabonds (ELVs) drama classes at St Peter’s Church Hall, High Street, from next Friday (April 19).

He said: “Vagabond was a term used to describe actors and musicians in the days when they would wander from place to place, performing anywhere and at any time.

“The ELVs drama classes are designed to give children and young people a view of theatre traditions from throughout history and around the world.

“Pupils will have the opportunity to devise and perform, learning valuable skills such as teamwork and confidence.

He added: “The pupils will learn about theatre traditions from around the world, starting with early examples from Greek theatre, continuing through Shakespeare and Victorian dramatics up to the modern day. ”

Mr Eades, who studied theatre at Warwick University, has had his plays featured at the Liverpool Fringe, the Edinburgh Horror Festival and on the No Sleep podcast.

He is the author of Where is the Moon?, which has been performed in schools around the world, and a series of fantasy novels for young adults, Son of the Lamp.

Having moved to Musselburgh from England in 2022, he is looking forward to his first time teaching in the town, although he has previously run drama workshops in schools.

Classes take place on Fridays, with the junior group, aged eight-11, meeting from 5pm to 6.30pm, costing £7 per week, and the senior group, aged 1216, running from 7pm to 8.30pm, priced £9 per week.
