HEART-THROBS IN FAST CARS
The face behind the steering wheel can set our hear ts throbbing even more than those highly-tuned engines…
Inever thought of a car as being some kind of sex-symbol – I kinda hoped it might be me,” David joked. “There is no doubt that Knight Rider made a huge difference to my career and it still is – even when I guested with Andre Rieu at Maastricht, I made my entrance with the car and the audience was on its feet – not for me, but for the car!”
David Hasselhoff has a great sense of humour and loves nothing better than making fun of himself, but he really is a man of action.
“I have always been into spor t,” he said. “I like doing things – white water rafting, tennis, running, scuba diving, hiking – even parachuting. I run a charity called Race for Life which works with terminally ill and handicapped children. I never forget how lucky I am and how lucky I have been.
“Driving a fast car is a thrill and I love it. When you turn on the engine and it purrs at you before roaring, it’s a ‘wow!’ moment. Then when you take off you go into a different world. I am told that ladies enjoy the power of a fast car too and the excitement of roaring down a highway to an exotic beach. So I’m told…”
David Hasselhoff is still having an amazing career – award-winning star of Baywatch and many other TV series and films, he is also a successful recording ar tiste and international personality constantly in demand.
“I owe a lot to that car,” he said. “Knight Rider is still being shown around the world. It was more than a TV show, it became a phenomenon. Baywatch was big but Knight Rider has been much bigger. I wasn’t sure about it at first because it was something completely different. When I looked at the first script I realised that I had to spend a lot of my time talking to a car! The stor ylines were good because good always triumphed over bad.
“My recording of Jump In My Car just had to have a Knight Rider car lookalike in the video. It was great fun.
“I never take myself too seriously. I have always been ver y aware that I wasn’t the hear t-throb, it was the car. I think it must have been that special growl from the engine, it had a deeper voice than me. Ladies like a deep voice – so I’m told…”
“I don’t myself too seriously – the car was the heart-throb, not me”
