SORTING OUT YOUR HOUSE
Make a list of any niggly jobs that need fixing around the house and get them done now. This will save having to pay for an emergency call-out for a plumber to fix a leaky tap that suddenly gets worse a few days before Christmas.
Check if your home policy includes home emergency cover. You hope you won’t need it, but it can cover the cost of unblocking the loo or fixing the central heating.
Get your boiler serviced, and check the central heating is working well in advance. Last thing you want is guests having to sit at the table with blankets round them over Christmas dinner!
Start a secret gift cupboard so you can squirrel away presents without them being found. It may require a bit of a declutter to clear some space – but you can always sell off any unwanted items on eBay and make some extra cash for Christmas.
Pop any non-perishable Christmas food in a special cupboard so you won’t be tempted to eat it before the big day. Make sure everyone else in the house knows to avoid it too!
Get into the festive spirit by putting up decorations early. It’s a chance to test the lights and if they’re playing up, head for Wilko which has a great selection that won’t break the bank. I got two sets of flashing lights for my tree there last year for under a fiver!
