uuChemotherapy – some forms of chemotherapy, though not all, will cause hair loss. The medicines involved stop the growing phase so the hair falls out, and all body hair can be affected. Wearing a cold (ice) cap during the treatment can help. The hair generally grows back after the chemotherapy treatment has finished, though the texture and even the colour may be different – often temporarily. Other medications – hair loss is a potential side effect of many prescription medicines including beta blockers, anticoagulants, antidepressants and acne medication containing vitamin A. Talk to your doctor to see if there is an alternative.
