Raise Awareness, Raise Spirits, Raise Money
Cancer Research UK encourages us to suppor t Race for Life – at home!
“I usually present about ten Race for Life events each summer,” says Topaz White. “Cancer research has saved my life twice. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and had a lumpectomy plus chemotherapy and radiotherapy, then in 2018, only days after losing my father to cancer, I was diagnosed again. I had a mastectomy and hopefully, I have now ended that battle for good.
“After my first illness, I dramatically changed my career and my life, travelling around London teaching dance and fitness classes. I enjoy being able to inspire and encourage people who are fighting their own health battles with my stor y and it has been a wonder ful and rewarding change for me.
“With the postponement of this year’s Race for Life park events, I am really happy to be able to suppor t Race for Life at Home by hosting an online danceathon in my own home, using a combination of Zumba, ballet fit and hip hop dance, all set to dif ferent styles of music. I have been running lots of my classes online since lockdown and the reaction has been amazing. People have found them really uplifting and motivational and it’s also an oppor tunity to socialise online. I am excited to be able to do this for Cancer Research UK, connecting people and getting them motivated for an hour, while bringing awareness and raising vital funds for the charity.
“Apar t from my personal experiences, I have met so many people through the years who have been af fected by the disease. So come on, let’s raise awareness, raise spirits and raise money, while having some fun!”
