Fab Fashion Of The ’70s

-

Iwas both a tomboy and a fashion-conscious pre-teen,” said Tamzin. “Living in London you became aware of how people dressed from an early age and the ’70s were just great with lots of colours and lots of extremes, some bordering on lunacy. If there is a ’70s party now it is time to get out the flares and brush up the Afro.”

The flairs and the wigs were part of a crazy era for fashion. Let’s not forget how we entered the Land of the

Giants as the trend towards platform-soled shoes with massive heels had many towering above everyone else.

The Asian influence also came to the fore in this decade with the realisation that Western women could also look pretty in something resembling a kaftan with beautiful Asian embroidery and strings of huge beads. Bright colours abounded and as the decade wore on, that even applied to hair! It became trendy to dye your hair green or orange, wear a beermat as an apron and stick a safety pin through your face. How we could ever forget the punk era! So, pick your favourite – huge Afro hair, tangerine flairs, bright red boots or perhaps a kaftan and you will go back in time to the super seventies.

“I bet I have got something of those somewhere at home,” said Tamzin. “I was a bit young to wear them but I still loved them.”
