MEASUREMEN­TS

To fit sizes: Small, Medium, Large.

Actual size: 96.5 cm (38ins), 108 (42½), 114 (44¾). Length: 65.5 cm (25¾ ins), 67.5 (26½), 70 (27.5).

MATERIALS

5 (5, 6) 50g hanks of Manos Del Uruguay Serena in Boysenberr­y (S2621). One pair each of 4 mm (No. 8) and 5.5 mm (No. 5) knitting needles; 4 mm crochet hook; stitch-holders.

TENSION

19 sts and 23 rows to 10 cm using 4 mm needles and one strand of yarn measured over reverse stocking-stitch.

15 sts and 19 rows to 10 cm using 5.5 mm needles and two strands of yarn measured over reverse stocking-stitch.

ABBREVIATI­ONS

Beg – beginning; dec – decrease; K– knit; P– purl; rem– remain; rep– repeat; rev st-st – reverse stockingst­itch (P1 row, K1 row); st(s) – stitches; tog – together; W&T– (wrap and turn) slip next st purlwise, bring yarn to front of work (if knit st) or to back of work (if purl st), slip st back to left-hand needle, turn work around.

FRONT & BACK

Note – Wind yarn into balls before you begin.

With 4 mm needles and one strand of yarn, cast on 90 (100, 110) sts.

Rib row – ★K1, P1, rep from ★ to end.

This row forms the rib.

Rep this row until work measures 4.5 cm.

Beg with a purl row, work in rev st-st until work measures 32 (33, 34) cm, ending after a wrong side row.

Shape neck – P40 (45, 50), wrap next stitch and turn (W&T), place wrapped st and rem 49 (54, 59) sts on holder or spare needle, knit back, [purl to 5 sts before wrapped st, W&T, knit back] 5 (6, 7) times, then [purl to 4 sts before wrapped st, W&T, knit back] twice, purl to 2 sts before wrapped st, W&T, knit back.

AT THE SAME TIME, when side edge measures 35.5 (37,

38) cm from cast-on edge, cast of f 5 sts at beg of right-side row for armhole shaping. When shor t row shaping is complete, cut yarn and slip rem 35 (40, 45) sts on to stitch-holder.

Return 50 (55, 60) held sts to needle and, beg with a right-side row, rejoin yarn and purl to end of row.

Next row – K40 (45, 50), W&T, place wrapped st and centre 9 sts on to stitchhold­er (note: this will include one wrapped st at each end), p back, [knit to 5 sts before wrapped st, W&T, p back] 5

(6, 7) times, then [k to 4 sts before wrapped st, W&T, p back] twice, K to 2 sts before wrapped st, W&T, p back. AT THE SAME TIME, when side edge measures 35.5 (37, 38) cm from cast-on edge, cast off 5 sts at beg of wrong-side row for armhole shaping. Work until shor t row shaping is complete. Cut yarn.

YOKE

With 5.5.mm needles and

2 strands of yarn, and beg with a wrong-side row, knit across 35 (40, 45) sts, knitting wraps together with sts as you come to them, knit centre 10 sts from holder, replace 35 (40, 45) held sts from second half on needle and knit across them, knitting wraps together with sts as you come to them – 80 (90,

100) sts.

Next row (right side) – Purl.

Next row – Knit.

Dec row – P3 (5, 7), [K2tog, P4] 12 (13, 14) times, K2tog, P 3 (5, 7) – 67 (76, 85) sts. Continuing in rev st-st, cast on 3 sts at beg of next 10 (12, 12) rows, then 2 (0, 2) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 101

To Make Up – Sew side and shoulder seams.

Using one strand of yarn and crochet hook, work one round of double crochet around armhole edges.

Weave in ends.
