Michelle Keegan reveals how her brilliant performance in the latest series of Our Girl is down to lots of training and hard work

-

We’d hardly had time to recover from Doctor Foster’s blistering finale when more top action burst on to our screens with the third series of Our Girl.

Love triangles, kidnappings, collapsed buildings, this first block of four episodes (yes, there are eight more episodes to come next year!) certainly bought us plenty of action both on and off the field and now we can’t wait for next week’s explosive finale.

While Michelle Keegan, who plays Corporal Georgie Lane, can’t give away too much she does promise one thing:

“Filming the last episode was epic!” she smiles, promising that we’re going to be glued to our screens.

Preparation was so intense for this Nepal-set series, that it sounds like Michelle has all but trained to go into combat for real.

“It’s been a lot more physically demanding than the first one. I’ve been covered in bruises! There are a lot more stunts involved, more army based scenes and a lot more running, which I’m not very good at! I’ve had to learn how to run like I’m in the army – nightmare!”

Intensive training at bootcamp gave Georgie an insight into the range of talents real army medic recruits must acquire before they join up.

“We did bootcamp in Sandhurst and South Africa. We work alongside people who are in the army and it’s about getting us in the mind-set of being back in the army, running drills, how to hold a weapon, discipline, all about your kit and a lot of medical skills. I’ve learned so much. I know how to use a tourniquet, a bandage, I know how to stitch, how to do CPR and a lot of technical bits too.”

One of the main stories running throughout both this series and the last is her conflicting feelings for former love, Elvis.

“They are work colleagues but there is still love there. Georgie believes they can’t be together but Elvis still tries his luck a couple of times.

“Obviously Elvis is a ladies’ man but she does find out a few things she doesn’t like. She tries to be professional but deep down I think she’s genuinely hurt.

“My favourite scene so far has been a bust up with Georgie and Elvis – we have a row where there’s a lot of frustration and jealousy but the love is still there. It was a great to film.”
