Sue’s Guide To how you can get fit for free!

-

Getting fit is high on most of our New Year resolutions, but let’s face it, cold dark days plus super pricey gyms means most of us will give up at the first hurdle.

So here’s a few tips on how to get fit for free!

Make one small change each week and stick to it. It could be a 10-minute walk round the block in your lunch hour, or drinking more water, but small changes can bring big results.

Kicking yourself out of the door on dark nights for fitness classes is tough, so borrow some fitness DVDs and do them in your lounge. I bet most of us have a few cluttering up our cupboards, so swap or borrow from friends to vary your workout. Even if it means paying a couple of quid, check if there are any going for rock bottom prices on eBay.

Lots of local councils offer free swimming sessions to over-60s so ask at local public pools if you qualify.

Get walking! Check WALK4LIFE.INFO for organised walks in your area. It can be anything from a short stroll to a longer hike, it’s a great way to meet new people, and it’s free!

Alternatively, why not check out OURPARKS.ORG.UK for outdoor group exercise classes? Also check your local library for fitness classes held in local schools or church halls. They’re often great value and you may get a couple of free classes as a new member, or go for free if you bring a friend.
