Rethink The Beauty Basics

It’s all change for the rules of cosmetics – brush up on the latest know-how and products for stunning looks!

Draping

“The big trend this year is to ditch the contouring and try a technique called ‘draping’ using blush only,” says make-up artist and EcoTools advisor Justine Jenkins. “Place your blush on the crest of your cheekbone and blend out, or to counteract round faces, place the blusher slightly under the cheekbone where you would have contoured. This lengthens the top half of the face. Staying with blush, a healthy, fresh colour on the apple of the cheek is in. Apply a touch of soft pink, coral or peach to your cheeks and blend with a blending sponge to avoid any contouring-type appearance.”

Modern Mono

“Monochromatic make-up is really current and fresh, a great way of doing a nude make-up look,” says make-up artist Francesca Neill. “Select colours for eyes, lips and cheeks that are all in the same family/tone. This helps to give a look where all the colours melt together and complement each other without ever looking too much. The great thing about nude make-up is that you can really mix textures and finishes without making the look too strong. If I do a matte eye and cheeks then I like to gloss the lips – however it also looks fantastic and modern if you stick to one finish, eg keeping everything matte.”

Spa Skin

“Dewy, glowing skin isn’t new but make this the statement of your make-up look in 2018,” adds Collection brand ambassador Francesca Neill. “Scale back the eyes and lips, with minimal make-up – you don’t need more than a swipe of mascara or gloss. For the ultimate healthy, refreshed skin, a radiant primer is a key buy to wear alone or under make-up. A lighter foundation is a good investment, as well as a creamy highlighter. A lip and cheek multipurpose colour is fantastic for ease of use.”

New Neutral

According to Francesca, pink is set to be the new neutral. “The best thing about a neutral is that you can use the colour anywhere on your face – soft on the eyelids, high on the cheeks or bold on the lips. Pink instantly freshens the face and suits all skin tones. Collection Highlight, Blush and Bronze palette can be dusted across the temples and cheeks to create a natural flush, across the lids and as a lip topper for added shimmer.”

Pollution Detox

According to the experts at beauty app Beyou GETBEYOU.COM, research proves pollution and “skin aggressors” such as blue light from our laptops and phones accelerate skin ageing. This year sees an increase in “anti-pollution” beauty launches formulated to defend the skin from the environment.
