MARCH FOR MEN

Prostate cancer is the 3rd biggest cancer killer in the UK, and Prostate Cancer UK needs your help to fight it! They’re running a fundraising March for Men in 7 cities across the UK in June – Liverpool, Manchester, London, Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds and Nottingham. You can opt for 2, 5 or 10km, get healthy exercise and support a good cause at the same time! Search “March for Men” online.

MENOPAUSE MATTERS

Every woman goes through it if she lives long enough – it is, of course, the menopause. The average age is about 52, but there’s huge variation between women. Any time over 45 is considered normal. The age women go through menopause often runs in families. Now it seems a diet high in refined carbs can bring on early menopause, while lots of fish and veg can delay it.

SPINAL SURGERY

The painful bone-thinning condition osteoporosis affects as many as 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over 65. One of the biggest problems is back pain due to collapsed bones. Treatments include physiotherapy, painkilling injections and surgery. New research has found that surgery to repair spinal fractures makes little difference to pain – so your doctor is unlikely to recommend it.
