Almost 8 million of the 45 million lapel poppies sold annually for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal are handmade, as they have been since the 1920s, by a 35-strong team of disabled veterans and their dependants, home-workers and volunteers at The Poppy Factory in Richmond. The team also produces a million Remembrance symbols for the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey and 139,000 wreaths and sprays for use by members of the Royal Family, military organisations and memorial events.

In September, The Poppy Factory Patron HRH The Duchess of Cornwall hosted a reception at Clarence House to celebrate the 1,000 wounded, injured and sick veterans who have been supported by the Getting You Back to Work programme.
