THIS WEEK: Joint Pain

- By Sammy Margo, Physiotherapist

QRather than taking painkillers, what can I do for my joint pain?

A We do know that losing weight can have a great effect on your load-bearing joints. Get moving using low impact activity such as swimming, walking or cycling and if 30 minutes is too much, just break it up into bite-size chunks such as 3 lots of 10 minutes. Consider changing your footwear to something more comfortable and supportive. Over-the-counter topical gels such as Deep Relief Anti-inflammatory Gel may be very helpful as it contains two active painkilling ingredients, ibuprofen which reduces pain and inflammation, and levomenthol which provides cooling, soothing relief. Available in 3 sizes; 30g for £4.79, 50g for £5.99 and 100g for £11.00, you’ll find Deep Relief at Boots, Lloyds, Morrison’s, Savers, Sainsbury’s, Superdrug and Waitrose.
