CoronationStreet’s Gina Seddon talks about arm-wrestling, allotments and her character’s latest shocking storyline…

● My character Gina is bipolar and it’s a subject that interests me a lot. My dad was a mental health nurse. I volunteered at a special school and also worked at The Samaritans. I’ve grown up with those very open conversations about mental health, so I’ve no fear of it.

● When I saw my latest storyline, I was excited! Gina would do anything for her sister Sally, but she’s fallen for her husband Tim and has also been taken in by Duncan, who framed Sally. He told Gina they had a fling so when Gina stood up in court she said it was possible Sally cheated. And now she’s been found guilty of fraud. Gina really believes Sally had an affair and thinks if she had a fella like Tim, she’d lay her life down for him.

● My biggest life-changing event was IVF. I’d spent two years playing PC Cathy Bradford in The Bill and tried IVF four times. My consultant said to leave, as the adrenalin of the job was affecting things. I now have two sons – I was ver y lucky. I’ve told them they are miracles.

● My most treasured possession is a beautiful brass statue of the three monkeys that belonged to my grandad – see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Ever y time I start a new job, I look at it and say to myself – be kind and don’t gossip.
