Getting to know Angela Griffin

The Corrie and Lewis star has a new role in Canadian cop show The Detail, and tells us why friends are important

● This is the first time I’ve played with a US accent! I usually just use my Leeds twang in roles with Coronation Street, Cutting It, Lewis and OrdinaryLies. It’s because I’ve been on TV for so long and casting directors just think, ‘Angela is northern, working class and down to earth,’ and so you get put into that bracket and it’s hard to break out of it. That’s why I’m excited that The Detail is being shown here, so people see I can do something different.

● It’s a female-led cop show about real women! I play Detective Stevie Hall, married mum of two juggling home life with being a cop. An old flame resur faces in the office, which throws ever ything into jeopardy. We filmed in Toronto and I stayed in my character’s North American accent from the moment I got picked up to the moment they shouted, “Cut!” at night! ● I got my start in Coronation Street as hairdresser Fiona Middleton back in the 1990s, but I really enjoy playing different characters rather than just the same one all the time. Having said that, I’m currently unemployed, so never say never! I’ve just turned down some work because it wasn’t quite right after the good roles I’ve had recently, but like every actor, now I’m worried that I’ll never work again!
