The Road To Hollywood
His first few years in the US were spent on vaudeville tours, moving on to parts in musicals and plays. In 1931, he secured a contract with Paramount, who insisted he change his name, and Cary Grant was born. Early successes included She Done Him Wrong and I’m No Angel with Mae West. A new contract with Columbia saw Cary appear in several charming romantic comedies such as Bringing Up Baby (which also starred a leopard!) and The Philadelphia Story with Katharine Hepburn, My Favourite Wife with Irene Dunne and His Girl Friday opposite Rosalind Russell, as well as more dramatic roles in Gunga Din and Only Angels Have Wings.
