Money Talk

-

We all need a spot of legal advice from time to time, whether it’s how to tackle a dispute with the neighbours, where you stand if you’ve been sacked, or the best way forward if you’re splitting up.

Speaking to a solicitor isn’t cheap as every minute on the clock means money. But you can get legal advice without a hefty price tag.

Citizens Advice has lists of local solicitors who offer fixed fee appointments. These are typically 30 minutes for around £30 and I’ve used this ser vice myself a couple of times. It’s been great value if you need to know where you stand.

Lots of home insurers include access to free legal helplines with their policies, so check if you have this option.

The RAC has a free 24/7 legal helpline for members where a team of legal advisors can offer advice on a variety of issues including employment, family, motoring and property issues.

Buying or selling your home? Lots of solicitors who specialise in conveyancing offer fixed fee deals so you know upfront what you’ll be charged.

You can get advice and have your will drawn up for free through charities including Cancer Research UK and the Stroke Association, with no obligation to leave them anything in your will, but if you use the ser vice, it’s worth considering. Or if you’re over 55 you can make a will free of charge during Free Wills Month in March WWW.FREEWILLSMONTH.ORG.UK.
