My Husband Invited Them All To Stay!

-

My daughter is buying a new-build house and there is a delay of two months between selling her old house and moving into the new one. We discussed this at our last Sunday lunch and her father said there was no problem – they could come and stay with us. It is a big house – four bedrooms – but I’m panicking at the thought of my daughter, son-in-law, toddler and boisterous dog moving in with us. I don’t think I can cope!

The return home, at an older age – with so many people, and a dog! – is a big deal, so I do sympathise with you. However, it may not be as much of an alarming situation as you fear, especially if you prepare yourself. It is after all, for a finite time, not for ever.

You might even have help with the household chores with your daughter on hand. Also, since it was your husband’s invitation, he should be called upon to help out as well.

Why not take this rare opportunity to get closer to them all? There may be some good family evenings ahead for you all to enjoy.

It might also be prudent to forget about everything at home being orderly. You could always suggest a rota for cooking and or cleaning. It might even be fun to have someone else cook for you on occasion? I’m sure your daughter and son-in-law will look after the toddler and the dog and all their stuff, as they are used to doing that anyway. Your husband might enjoy taking the dog out and discover the joys of a local playground with the grandchildren.

Your daughter will be there to assist and all in all, once you get organised, I’m sure this is an opportunity rather than a threat. You may well miss them when their new-build is ready!

Why not take this opportunity to get closer to them all with quality family time?
