My 20s Were A Write-Off!
In her early days at Coronation Street, Sarah was secretly battling depression. Having suffered from the condition since she was just 17, she has revealed that her 20s “were a write-off”.
“In my early days, depression did inhibit me because I was too debilitated and terrified to tell anyone why I couldn’t get on a train from Manchester for auditions in London,” she said.
“It’s a cruel illness because you can’t see it and you can hide it so well. At least, I can. I’m a genius at hiding it. I think a lot of people are. Actors are marvellous at hiding.”
While she was on Coronation Street, she suffered a ner vous breakdown that affected her for 14 months. She revealed that she also considered suicide twice, but her mum took her to the doctor.
“Purely coincidentally, I had been written out of the Street for 10 weeks, so I was lucky,” Sarah said. “It was a time bomb waiting to go off. My mother literally dragged me to the doctor. It gave me my life back.”
