Beautiful bathrooms

In today’s world with so much uncertainty and stress, cocooning yourself in a home with things that make you happy is key to an increased sense of well-being and contentment,” says Lee Frost, Direct of Waters Baths of Ashborne.

The bathroom is the ideal place to bring together the concept of a functional space and Zen-like environment. It’s a room one can escape to from the urban grind and reconnect, reboot and bolster, a place for purification and essential for cleansing ourselves of the pollutants and stresses of the modern world. It makes sense that for décor we are moving towards pure organic forms, raw materials and methods of stress relief. To replenish and add warmth, emphasise organic features by putting untreated wood, calming minerals and colourful foliage in pride of place. Accessorise with organic wax candles, wooden panelling, and tactile stone sanitary ware to

create a holistic and environmentally conscious scheme. For a quick fix, try replacing light bulbs for a softer, warmer tinted bulb to avoid the harsh icy glare that white toned bulbs so often create, turning the bathroom into a more soothing space to spend time in.

“The colours we are seeing nowadays in bathrooms embrace individualism. Unlike earlier colour palettes of the ’70s, today’s colour palette allows for personal choice, shaped by the advancement of technology and materials over the years and drawing more on the senses.”

Pale green tones are in tune with the trend towards creating calm, comfort and a reconnection to nature. A neutral colour scheme is restful, timeless and easily enlivened with colourful accessories. However, future trends for bathrooms are taking a bolder direction.

“At the top end of the market, it’s all about colour finishes. Designers are moving away from chrome and clear glass to coloured finishes and textured and printed glass,” says David Osborne, Managing Director at shower specialists Roman Ltd. “Critall-style (steel framed) showers are becoming a thing of the future; the black grid-latticed style is industrial chic with an elegant twist. Black frames, fittings and black printed glass are key to the modern eclectic style.”
