THE NEW NORMAL YOUR WORRIES SHARED

Along with the practical steps we’ve become used to, we can support the resistance of our bodies, too.

“Your immune strength is dependent on an optimal intake of vitamins and minerals. If your diet is mainly from processed foods, it may be low in vitamins A, C and E, zinc and selenium and your immune system may be suboptimal,” explains nutritional therapist Laura de la Harpe, whose top tips for supported immunity are: ◆ Consume at least five servings of fruit and vegetables a day. ◆ Avoid highly processed, sugary, fast food, which is very low in nutrients and high in calories.

If you are struggling financially there’s a lot of help available,” says Sue Hayward, Personal Finance & Consumer Expert. “Homeowners can get a three-month mortgage payment holiday for some financial breathing space, although be aware that you will still need to make payments plus interest further down the line. A further three-month extension has recently been announced – you have until the end of October to apply for it.

“You can also get a three-month payment freeze on credit card bills, loans and car finance deals. Once again, you’ll need to make up payments and interest at a later date. But you do need to ask; don’t just stop making payments, speak to your lender first. The same goes for the £500 interest free overdraft which you might consider if you’re struggling – speak to your lender, don’t just head into the red and assume you’ll be OK. When it comes to household bills and payment of council tax, water or energy, most companies will let you defer payments or take a payment break if you’re struggling.

“If you’re on a low income, do check if you can claim any benefits. There’s a handy benefits calculator at WWW.TURN2US. ORG.UK. And if you’re in dire straits get free help from places like Citizens Advice, National Debtline or StepChange.”
