-

pre-recorded without a studio audience. Instead, live video feeds from more than 200 households are beamed onto a huge wall directly behind the socially-distances judges.

For everyone involved, 2020’s winner will hold an important place in BGT history. Amanda, who has become head judge in Simon’s absence, says that she has found the choir performances particularly poignant this year.

“I think after the year that everyone’s had and the community spirit that we adopted, looking out for each other, I think a choir winning would epitomise 2020 in a really nice, positive way. It’s a community of people who sing together, to have a lovely time, and to get themselves through various things in their lives.”

The show’s production team have been sharing snippets of behind-the-scenes action on social media, including explanations about how social distancing works. But despite all the changes, the judges say this year’s competition is about more

than just the BGT spectacle.

Alesha says, “There’s so much more meaning in everything now, after all we’ve been through as a country. It’s given it another level. If they pitch it right, they get the right song, they’re going to tap into the emotion of the nation. And I think we could see some really powerful moments on the show, fingers crossed!”

JFayth Ifil (Simon) – 12-year-old Fayth got the 3,000-strong live crowd on its feet when she sang Tina Turner’s ProudMary at her April audition. David told her she was “born to be a superstar”.

Sammy & Honey (Amanda) – the mother and daughter duo got a second chance to sing after Simon said he didn’t like their first choice. Honey (14) and Sammy (43) returned to perform Freya Ridings’ LostWithoutYou and convinced Amanda to hit the golden buzzer!

Nabil Abdulrashid (Alesha) – Alesha describes Nabil, her golden buzzer comedian from Croydon, as “edgy” and says that’s what she likes about him. “I think that comedians should be allowed to be a little bit naughty and get away wwith things we can’t bbecause we have to llearn to have a sense of hhumour about things.” Sign S Along With Us ( David) – their audition piece ThisisMe from TheGreatestShowman had most of the judging panel in tears and was a performance Simon said s he’d “never forget”. Jon Courtenay (Ant and Dec) – “TheGreatest Showman S Dad” Jon performed on stage at The Palladium. The 46-year-old dad of two said the venue was

“the Holy Grail” of variety and he grew up watching shows there with his late father.
