Meet A Macmillan Hero

-

everyone to get involved with the Coffee Morning this year.

“Supporting Macmillan in the way of eating cake and having people you like around you is almost like that homely feeling that Macmillan give you. They’re not just a support group, they’re like a really good friend.”

Vikki Jones is a Macmillan gynaecology oncology advanced nurse practitioner at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire. “I am privileged enough to work as a Macmillan gynaecology oncology advanced nurse practitioner. My role allows me to have precious one to one time with patients and to assess what’s important to them as individuals and how I can be pivotal in making a difference to their care and experience. I have the ability to make a positive difference to each and every patient I meet. This ranges from little things to empowering life-changing decisions.

“This year, it’s very much at the forefront of mine and my fellow health professionals’ minds that Macmillan, which is funded almost entirely by public donations, is anticipating a loss in fundraising income due to the coronavirus pandemic. Worse still, this has come at a time when our patients also need our support more than ever. Coffee Morning is so important because it raises vital funds for Macmillan, funds that will allow us to continue to be there for people living with cancer.

“We host one big coffee morning in the main foyer at the hospital where I work. It’s very well advertised around the hospital and supported by many staff – it’s always really well received by patients and families, too. Many smaller events take place behind the scenes throughout the hospital, for example in the admin offices. It’s a really successful day, giving everyone the chance to have a well-deserved slice of cake and a cuppa, while raising money for a very important cause that is close to all of our hearts.” virtually. Get your best chums together and plan your own coffee morning from the comfort of your own home.

◆ The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning takes place on Friday September 25. For ideas, inspiration and how to get involved visit COFFEE.MACMILLAN.ORG.UK for more information.
