Isle Of Wight Delights

Don’t let its small size fool you, the Isle of Wight is filled with exciting activities…

-

Nestled below the British mainland, this beautiful island is a wildlife lover’s dream. Walk along the chalk ridge through the centre of the island and spot the Adonis blue and Glanville fritillary butterflies that float around the area. Or you can make friends with the lions and tigers at the Isle of Wight zoo. Found on the coast of Sandown you’ll be welcomed by the lemurs and wallabies that call this place home. Look out for Monica, Mauve and Mushu, the mischievous meerkats who are always up to no good!

As well as its wonderful wildlife, the isle is also famed for its incredible walking routes. The Isle of Wight Walking Festival takes place every year, where keen ramblers gather together to take on some of the island’s greatest walks.

Making your way across the island from Cowes to Ventnor the sights are incredible. Take the

Monk’s Paradise trail and peruse the coastal views of the island, or the Victorian trail where you can enjoy some beautiful Victorian chapels as you wander through the isle and its history.

After being postponed earlier this year, the walking festival has been rearranged for October – visit their website isleofwightwalkingfestival.co.uk for more information.

Take a trip to the east coast and discover Shanklin Chine, the island’s oldest tourist attraction. This fairytale-like gorge is lined with striking green trees and lush foliage which transport you to another land.

At night the Chine and its waterfall are illuminated by colourful lights. This whimsical paradise is open from MayNovember so there’s still time to see this before it closes for winter. It’s best to see the Chine both during the day and at night so you can experience the true magic of the area.
