Winter In Wales

Why not explore a Welsh winter wonderland?

-

The picturesque town of Abergavenny in Monmouthshire is the gateway to Wales and a fabulous place for a festive break.

Take a boat ride around Goytre Wharf. You can either rent a canal boat at WWW.ABCBOATHIRE.COM or if you’d prefer to stay on land, there’s a lovely footpath that will take you round. Spot old-world cottages and vast woodlands as you venture through the Welsh countryside. There’s an onsite café at the heart of Goytre Wharf for you to warm up in. Or if you want to brave the cold there’s plenty of space to bring a picnic!

Abergavenny is surrounded by mountains including the Brecon Beacons. Sugar Loaf and Blorenge provide the best views, but do remember to check weather warnings before you plan a hike.

Back in the city centre, stop in at The Angel Hotel for a festive afternoon tea and Restaurant 1861 for a dinnertime treat. Be sure to book a table in advance, as these restaurants are two of the most popular in the area.

At the opposite end of the country you’ll find one of Wales’ most famous landmarks –

Snowdonia. The snow-capped peaks are the perfect sight to witness on a crisp winter morning. But Snowdon isn’t the only attraction within the park.

Take the Cynfal Falls Walk for a leisurely stroll past the waterfall of Rhaeadr Cynfal or the Dyffryn Maentwrog and Llyn Mair footpaths to spot hundreds of ancient oak trees. Some of these routes may be closed due to the weather, however, so check before you set out.

The nearby village of Betws-yCoed shouldn’t be forgotten. It too is filled with whimsical sites such as Swallow Falls and Fairy Glen.

Visit the Conwy Falls Café to enjoy a cosy meal while marvelling at the views of its namesake.
