Dilly’s Craft Corner

-

Interiors Expert Dilly Orme says, “Add texture and interest to your walls by installing an ombre wall hanging.”

Decide on how long you want the macrame string to hang off your dowel. Then use the Lark’s Head Knot technique to loop the cut string lengths around the dowel, leaving an inch of the wood dowel bare on either end. Pour two dye paints into separate buckets following the preparation method on the bottle. Protect the general work area with old rags or plastic. Then, wearing rubber gloves, gently and evenly dip your strings into the lighter of the two dye paints first. Leave the top part of the strings bare. Slowly pull the strings out and squeeze any excess dye water out. Next, dip the strings into the darker dye but only up to the halfway mark. As before, remove the strings and squeeze any excess dye water out. Attach another piece of string to each end of the wood dowel so you can hang it to dry, overnight, preferably outside.
