A five-mile circular walk from Bowlees through the stunning Forest-in-Teesdale leads to the Low and High Force Waterfalls, which are spectacular.
The 11-mile Durham Coastal Footpath or on-road cycle route from Seaham to Crimdon offers breath-taking clifftop scenery, while even within Durham City, you can get away from it all on a riverside walk or a canoe.
