Dragons’Den and Strictly star talks about her love of dance, investments, and juggling her career and family life

-

● I really enjoyed filming this series of

Dragons’Den. The businesses pitching were either those that started as a result of the pandemic or that had to completely rethink their model to be able to survive. It’s been fascinating.

● This is my third series and I finally feel I’ve hit my stride.

I felt at a disadvantage as I wasn’t as well known as the other Dragons, but now I’ve had some successful investments and people can see the value I add, I have more confidence in myself.

● People forget this is our own money we’re investing.

They see the piles of cash next to us and think the BBC is funding it. It’s nerve-racking, because you’re putting that money into somebody else and relying on them to turn that pound into five pounds.

● I wanted to run my own business from a young age.

Both my parents are entrepreneurs [they ran a painting and decorating shop] and I knew I wanted to follow in their footsteps. I didn’t know I would end up running a craft business, though [she founded Crafter’s Companion when she was at university – it’s now a £35 million empire].

● My proudest achievement is that, as a woman, I really do feel like I have it all. I’ve a fantastic career, I’m a wife and mum, and I don’t have to compromise one to be the other. If you’ve got a good supportive family around you, everything is possible.
