ALTON WATER
Alton Water, near Ipswich, is the biggest manmade reser voir in Suffolk with a perimeter of over eight miles. It’s an incredible wildlife haven, with Egyptian geese, cormorants, grebes, herons, and the tamest oystercatchers we have ever seen.
It has cycle routes, nature reser ves, woodland trails, play areas, and watersports facilities. Footpaths around the lake take you through beautiful wildflower meadows, woodlands, grasslands, bogs and ponds. There are even habitats designed for reptiles and flocks of geese gather at the edge of the lake.
Alton Water also benefits from a campsite, play areas, crazy golf, lots of parking, and long walks that take you the full eight miles around the waterside. There are different car parks on different parts of the reser voir, and you can buy a day pass, valid in all of them, for £6.
