Matt’s Bid For Star Baker
Nineteen celebrities are taking part in this year’s GBBO celebrity spin off – including the show’s co-presenter Matt Lucas who was forced to step in at the last minute.
And while Matt, 47, who became the new co-host in 2020, accepted the challenge, he readily admits it was nerve-wracking. He explains, “I was forced to bake by my bosses when one of the bakers became unavailable. I can’t tell you how happy I was that my humiliation was caught on camera!”
But is Matt the secret underdog? We don’t have particularly high hopes as in the past he has been less than complimentary about his baking abilities!
Matt adds, “I once tried to bake a cake, but already I started tampering with the recipe and the cake, I mean, talk about a soggy bottom. I mean, this cake was just – if you had to give it a name, you’d call it wet egg cake. I mean, that’s all it was. It was inedible, and I didn’t go anywhere near it.”
Giving a sneak preview of how Matt fares, Paul admits, “He got really upset because something had gone wrong. It did get to him [being in the tent]. He was in a friendly environment, but he was really nervous, bless him.”
Prue adds, “He had trouble with his marzipan!” As for whether the judges were easier on him, it’s a resounding no. “I was harder on him,” chuckles Paul.
