Good news if you’re “often the bridesmaid” (coined in a 1925 ad for Listerine) – it’s your time to shine! It’s National Bridesmaids Day on March 25, celebrating all the lovely galpals who organise hen nights, keep the bride calm and help her look gorgeous – even if wearing some complexion-sapping frock horror themselves. Legend has it bridesmaids dressed alike to deflect evil spirits and kidnappers from the bride. Queen Victoria took no chances: she had 12, all dressed in white.
