SIDNEY POITIER MAKES HISTORY

The late Sidney became the first black man to be crowned Best Actor in the 1964 awards, for his per formance as Homer Smith in Lilies In The Field. On accepting his award, Sidney acknowledged its histori c significance, commenting, “It is a long journey to this moment.”
