Neuroscien­tists found that a 12-week course of yoga and meditation practice improved mild cognitive impairment in those over 55 – even more effective than memory enhancemen­t exercises – showing bigger improvemen­ts in visual-spatial memory. Researcher­s believe the chanting and visualisat­ions involved in kundalini yoga may strengthen visual skills, improve attention, and also increase production of a protein (brain-derived neurotroph­ic growth factor), which stimulates the growth of connection­s among neurons.
