CAMBRIDGES ON THE GO
News reports were full of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to the Caribbean last month, when the couple undertook one of a series of royal tours organised for key members of the Royal Family on behalf of the Queen, to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee year.
William and Kate have seen their workload increase over the past few years as the Queen has gradually reduced her obligations and roles have been vacated by the Dukes of Edinburgh and York and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Flora and Fauna International and the British Trust for Ornithology were two cherished patronages handed to Prince William, while among other new responsibilities, Kate was appointed Patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League.
Along with his father, Prince William is also one of four counsellors of state who can step in to conduct most of the Queen’s official duties, should she ever become temporarily indisposed – bar certain core constitutional duties such as the signing of an act of parliament or the appointment of a prime minister.
