Weddings On A Budget As A Guest

SUE’S GUIDE TO

-

Posh frocks at the ready! This year’s wedding season is bursting into bloom and if you’ve got several invitations lined up, here are my tried and tested tips on how to enjoy the big day as a guest – without giving yourself a financial hangover.

After opening your sparkly invitation, the next stop is finding somewhere to stay, unless the wedding is nearby. If it’s miles away and in a posh hotel, guests may get a discount on rooms, but can still make for an expensive night’s sleep.

For rooms on a budget, look for the nearest local B&B, Premier Inn,

Travelodge or Airbnb for the night. Even after you factor in the cost of a taxi each way to the venue, it can still work out much cheaper at these places.

When it comes to posh frocks, I always turn to eBay for top quality bargains. There’s usually lots of dresses from the likes of Hobbs, M&S and Phase Eight on there – and at a snip. The trick is knowing your size inside out with your favourite brands before bidding, so you end up with a dress that fits! Or try charity shops. I love the Mar y’s Giving & Living shops which all sell gorgeous second hand clothes, have that “boutique” look and support Save The Children.

With gifts, forget the pricey gift list, and find a unique gift on Etsy, or create a personalised wine label and pop it on a bottle of fizz for the happy couple.
