Anthea Turner How I See It...

-

Hello,

I love health and beauty tips but like most of us I only look for them when I need to rather than getting ahead and warding off problems before they happen!

When my 30-year-old self looked in the mirror I couldn’t imagine that tight, glowing skin could ever be uneven and saggy.

I knew it happened, but to old people; I wasn’t one of those and couldn’t get my head around that day ever arriving.

Well it has and I am, but it’s not my ageing skin that takes over my thoughts, it’s my entire wellbeing. We cannot control all that life throws at us but we can control how we approach it – and not just for ourselves but for those around us. Looking after yourself isn’t self-indulgent, it’s a necessity.

When I was researching my book HowToAge Well:TheSecrets we chatted to so many experts, all of whom gave me their best advice.

I didn’t want this book to be a tome, just full of plain, no-nonsense tips which we easily integrate into our lives.

The truth is, everything comes down to a healthy daily balance between our output, input, rest quality but most importantly strength of mind. You need it in bucketloads to say yes to good things and no to

bad ones.

GOOD CHOICES

It sounds simple. You and I have been on this planet for long enough to know that striking the balance is harder than it sounds, which is why we constantly need to check on our inner Eve and keep her away from temptation. This week’s food task I’m going to give you is about training your mind, and the trick I use to help me make the right food choices. I began by understanding my stomach. I discovered what it loves, hates, and how it works in conjunction with other organs, in particular my brain. I realised it was my best friend. Would you want to hurt your best friend? No, of course not.

So, as you pick up a piece of food ask yourself, Is this good for my gut? Will it appreciate the gift and be happy or will it be groaning at the thought of having to digest this glutinous, salty, sugary, processed mess?

I’m not Novak Djokovic so I can have an occasional treat; my “Best Friend” understands. I just don’t exceed the 80-20 rule.

80% good, sound, positive decisions allow me 20% not so good. So, if you haven’t already done it make this the day you meet and love your NBF.

Love, Anthea X
