Dilly’s Craft Corner
Interiors Expert Dilly Orme says, “Make your own beautiful sea glass creations.”
During lockdown the mindful outdoor pursuit of searching for sea glass grew in popularity for its therapeutic effects. Once you have collected your pieces you could try making simple earrings. Take pre-drilled pieces of sea glass and thread onto a headpin. Use wire cutters to cut the stem of the pin 1cm above the sea glass to make a loop. With round-nosed pliers, curl the cut end into a closed loop, then open up the loop on a fish hook ear wire and attach the pin with the sea glass pieces onto it. Repeat for the other earring. Try making a pendant by using round nose pliers to wrap jewellery wire around your chosen piece of sea glass with a well wrapped loop at the top to thread on a chain. Sea glass also looks beautiful displayed alongside shells in glass jars where they can catch the light.
