The Alzheimer’s Society Accelerator Programme

-

◆ This initiative not only encourages innovative ideas to help solve common problems for those living with dementia, but offers business and financial support for those developing them. “We’re proud to be getting the following lifechanging products into the hands of people who need them the most,” says Simon Lord, Innovation Programme Manager at Alzheimer’s Society ( ALZHEIMERS.ORG.UK).

◆ Konnect ( KRAYDEL.COM) makes video calling simple using the television – for those who can’t use the internet, a computer, or a tablet. It’s more engaging than a phone call and provides peace of mind for loved ones.

◆ Sibstar ( SIBSTAR.CO.UK) is the first secure, prepaid debit card for people living with dementia, along with an app for their carer. Created by Jayne Sibley when her mother June fell prey to scammers, it allows vulnerable people to remain financially independent.

◆ HUG ( HUG.WORLD) is a soft, playful, interactive comforter containing a simulated beating heart and a programmable music player. It generates the soothing sensation of giving and receiving a hug which, research has shown, can improve quality of life, reduce anxiety and

agitation and enhance social interaction.

◆ Jelly Drops ( JELLYDROPS.COM) are 95% water, sugar-free, vegan sweets with added electrolytes, created by Lewis Hornby because his grandma Pat, who had dementia, was struggling to hydrate.

◆ Dementia UK’s free helpline, 0800 088 6678, is available 7 days a week and you will always speak to a nurse.
