An Easter family gathering is the perfect excuse to give your home a decorative makeover to usher in the sunnier days of spring
The Easter weekend is the perfect time to spruce up your nest says Claire Hornby, Head of Creative at interiors retailer Barker & Stonehouse. “Whether hosting friends and family or dedicating the holiday to a DIY project, Easter offers the perfect opportunity for a seasonal refresh. Just re-styling a space with a few thoughtful new additions can make the world of difference. Why not swap out darker winter accessories for a palette of lemon, eucalyptus and rose?
“Light wood accents are a subtle way to usher in spring and their soft organic textures will instantly instil a sense of calm. Smaller pieces such as lighting or bamboo shelving can be used for a quick fix.”
Rebecca Snowden, Stylist at Furniturechoice.co.uk, suggests giving the living room a seasonal update. “Transform your fireplace into a spring focal point – brighten up the surround with a coat of fresh white paint and refresh the chimney breast in light blue as a nod to blue skies ahead. Make the space feel cosy and inviting with a chic armchair layered with a cushion and throw in light floral hues. On the mantelpiece, create a mini spring garden with flowers and Easter motifs. Keep the colour palette soft – think pastel tinted vases and white ceramic planters and candlesticks.
“Add lively spring colours through fresh blooms, such as daffodils, tulips and hyacinth bulbs, and contemporary pastel coloured artwork. Complete the look with Easter touches like ceramic bunnies and a scattering of Easter eggs on the shelf.”
For the dining room, think pretty pastels and luxe metallic touches. “Elaborate table settings have become a trend in interior design, with beautiful displays taking over social media,” Rebecca adds. “A grey marble dining table sets a sophisticated tone for Easter brunch. Layer pink and white scalloped plates with woven placemats for a playful, whimsical feel.”
“A bit of sparkle goes a long way in elevating a table setting. Choose gold-plated cutlery to create a polished and modern look.”
