Making a splash on the Spanish coast
Timoncap is an open-water swimming competition held off Cabo de Palos, close to the city of Cartagena in the Spanish region of Murcia. Competitors set off from the port and swim a little more than two miles around the cape before finishing at
Playa de Levante. This was the first time I’d photographed the event, and as the swimmers began to dive in and take their places, I dashed to the starting point. The whole place was heaving with spectators and well-wishers but I managed to squeeze my way to the front and position myself just a few metres from the competitors as they got going — the best place from which to snap a shot of the action.
