SNOW SPORTS TECH

-

ENHANCE YOUR WINTER SPORTS WITH APPS TO GUIDE YOU DOWN THE MOUNTAINS, UP THE ENTERTAINMENT AND IMPROVE TECHNIQUE, TOO

For inspiration when booking a snow sports trip you might find some interesting activities, events and tours through Airbnb Experiences. Just search ‘skiing’ or ‘snowboarding’, adding a location and date range. As well as delivering a diverse choice of activities, you’ll be connected with the locals offering the experience who might be able to help out with other aspects of your trip.

If you’re planning to tackle the slopes without local guidance, check out the route-planning and turn-by-turn voice navigation offered by Skadi app. You can get it to plan the day’s skiing or boarding based on your skill level. You can even set it to avoid things like drag-ližfts or visit certain points of interest. When pelting down a mountain on a piece of plastic isn’t exciting enough for you, there’s an ‘adventure mode’, which uses augmented reality to have you collecting crystals and magic animals as you travel. The basic app is free and operates totally offlŸine, but you’ll need the €15 (£13) a year membership for unlimited use. At the time of writing, 54 of the most popular worldwide resorts are covered, with more being added.

Now you can find your way around, it’s time to think about technique. Carv (£249) is a virtual ski coach that lives in your boots. At least the sensor infused insoles do. As well as the insoles monitoring weight distribution, there’s a little black box you clip to your boot that houses an accelerometer and gyroscope to record speed and orientation. Link them to the smartphone app and you’ll get real-time monitoring and feedback about your carving and cornering technique. airbnb.co.uk/experiences skadi.guide getcarv.com
