The iconic stone circle is erected. The entire monument is constructed in stages over

a period of 1,500 years

1915

Barrister Cecil Chubb buys Stonehenge at auction. In 1918, he gišs it to the nation, ending centuries of

private ownership

1986

Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Sites is inscribed on the UNESCO World

Heritage List
