Rocco Forte Private Villas, Verdura Resort

-

Newly opened in April this year and perched on a secluded hillside along Verdura Resort’s coastline, Rocco Forte’s 20 three- and fourbedroom Private Villas each have their own swimming pool and landscaped garden. All are designed to reflect traditional Sicilian architecture, with wooden beams and warm earthen tones in a modern setting.

For those who like to work up a sweat before putting their feet up, this is the place, with access to Verdura Resort’s championship golf courses and an Academy led by PGAqualified professionals, as well as fencing, diving and tennis. Guests can then unwind in the wellness centre — facilities include four outdoor pools, as well as open-air thalassotherapy (seawater) pools overlooking the mountains. Keen cooks, can take classes in Sicilian cookery and wine-tasting.

Villas: From €1,760 (£1,515)

While in the area: The surrounding area has some unmissable sights. Visit the Valley of the Temples in the town of Agrigento, the archaeology of nearby Selinunte, or Marsala, the port town known for its wine.
