The National Trust, with its 500-plus cottages, bothies, bunkhouses and hotels in stunning spots across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, was a clear winner. As well as being dog- and family-friendly, the charity’s accommodation is often packed with history and character, with offerings including a Victorian lighthouse and fairytale-esque towers.
